Stephen Babish, age 96, passed away peacefully on Thursday March 25, 2021, at his Colonia residence in the presence of his two sons.
Born in Elizabeth to Michael Babish and Anna (nee Sanko), Mr. Babish resided in Colonia for over fifty years in the house he built in 1967. He served honorably in the U.S. Navy during WWII from August 31, 1943 to May 31, 1946. He worked as a machinist at the Singer Company in Elizabeth for 39 years. He loved his vegetable garden, watching Gunsmoke, and rooting for Rutgers, and enjoyed reading, fishing, crabbing, and polka music. Mr. Babish was extremely handy and enjoyed working on his car, fixing lawn mowers and other machinery, and was a problem solver who enjoyed helping relatives and neighbors with various projects.
He is survived by his two sons, Stephen and his wife Stacey, and John and his wife Heather; one sister, Helen Seelig; and his seven grandchildren, Christine, Sophia, Caroline, Joseph, Teresa, Peter, and Mary Babish. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife Dorothy (nee Depczynski) in 1995, who he married in 1967.
Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend the Graveside Service on Monday March 29, 2021, at 11:30 am, at the St. Gertrude Cemetery, Colonia. Arrangements are in the care and direction of the Krowicki Gorny Memorial Home, 211 Westfield Ave. Clark, NJ 07066.
