Margarita Calado Obituary

Margarita I. Calado, beloved mother and grandmother, passed away peacefully on Tuesday December 26, 2023, at the Center for Hope Hospice & Palliative Care in Scotch Plains.

Born April 13, 1944 in Cienfuegos, Cuba, to the late Raul and Celia Margarita Martinez. She graduated accounting school in Cuba and emigrated to the United States with her mother and sister in 1966, where she was a resident of Harrison, NJ for 57 years.

Margarita was employed at The RCA Company until its closure and Boorum & Pease through its acquisition.  She then went on to work for the US Postal Service as a mail processor for 22 years before retiring in 2008.

Margarita was an avid New York Yankees fan since her early days in pre-Castro Cuba. She loved to read, enjoyed history and traveling. She delighted in going to museums, exhibits and Broadway shows. Margarita also had a warm heart for cats. Especially Timothy & Bela, her cats that she rescued, both which crossed the Rainbow Bridge some years ago.

Margarita will truly be missed by her family and friends.  She is survived by her only child, Sandra Calado, and her only grandchild, Jillian Paige Malone, née O’Donnell. Dear sister to Maria C. Fernandez and her husband Juan. Loving aunt to Maria Elena Dela Cruz & Gerard and Laura Reinhard & Kyle. Also surviving are five great nephews - Justin, Ethan and Lance Dela Cruz and Eric and Jason Reinhard.

In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory to The Center for Hope & Palliative Care in Scotch Plains, NJ Center for Hope Hospice and Palliative Care would be greatly appreciated.
