Joan Marie Olawski-Stiener, age 62, of Warren, passed away on Thursday, September 2, 2021, at the Overlook Medical Center, Summit.
Born and raised in Rahway to Alfred and Louise Olawski, she resided in Warren for the past 29 years. Joan earned a bachelor’s degree in finance from Rutgers University and a law degree from Seton Hall; she channeled her passion for environmental causes into her career as a regulations officer for the NJ Department of Environmental Protection, where she served for 20 years. A lover of adventure, one of her favorite pastimes was traveling the globe to exotic destinations. Joan found great fulfillment in working with her beloved dogs, who are trained therapy animals; together, they competed in shows, winning over 200 ribbons. Joan published a memoir about how her love of her dogs impacted her life.
Joan is survived by her beloved husband of 35 years, Joseph Stiener; stepdaughter, Holly Stiener; brother, William Olawski. Her dogs, Rio and Romeo, will miss her greatly. She is predeceased by her parents and sister, Patricia Olawski.
Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend the visitation on Tuesday, September 7, 2021, from 2-4 and 7-9 pm at the Krowicki Gorny Memorial Home, 211 Westfield Avenue, Clark, NJ 07066. A funeral service will be offered on Wednesday, September 8, 2021, at 10 am, followed by interment at St. Gertrude Cemetery, Colonia.
