Helen Heindel (nee Aksztulewicz), age 95, passed away peacefully on Friday, April 16, 2021, at the Atrium at Navesink, Red Bank.
Born and raised In Jersey City to Josephine and Vincent, Helen graduated from Ferris High School as valedictorian of her class. She met the cherished love of her life, George, who was a WWII bomber pilot, and they married in 1949. Together they moved to Caracas, Venezuela where they shared an adventure-filled six years. Once they started a family, they returned to the US to reside in Shreveport, LA for 5 years, Houston, TX for 6 years, and ultimately returned to NJ where they resided in Clark from 1966 to the present.
Helen was smart, witty, compassionate, and full of love. Her smile was infectious. She was a volunteer for the Rutgers Cooperative Extension, the YMCA of Fanwood/Scotch Plains, as well as the Brownies and Girl Scouts. She was an active member of St. Agnes Church, a strong swimmer, an avid tennis player, a happy gardener, and a philosopher, just to name a few. She lived independently with a sharp mind for 95 years.
Mrs. Heindel is survived by her three children, CeCe Scheckler and her husband, Chip; Fred Heindel; June Heindel and her husband Sam Conley; and one grandchild, Steve Scheckler. She is predeceased by her beloved husband of 56 years, George Heindel, one daughter, Mary Celine Heindel, and one brother, Henry Suruda.
Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend the Mass of Christian Burial on Wednesday, April 21, 2021, at 11am at the St. Agnes R.C. Church, Clark, NJ. Interment will follow at Maryrest Cemetery, Mahwah, NJ. Arrangements are in the care and direction of the Krowicki Gorny Memorial Home, 211 Westfield Ave., Clark, NJ 07066. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Helen’s name to the charity of your choice.
