Gene Uhlig, age 59, of Colonia, passed away on Wednesday July 29, 2020, surrounded by his family, at the Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, Rahway.
Born in Elizabeth, to Eugene and Eileen Uhlig, Mr. Uhlig has been a resident of Colonia for the past 25 years. He worked as a self employed tool & die maker for over 40 years. Mr. Uhlig had the skill of being able to make everything and anything. He was a member of the American Legion of Rahway, V.F.W. Post 6061 of Colonia, Colonia Elks Club, Deutscher Club of Clark, Sea Scouts, and a rider with the Legion Motorcycle Club.
He is survived by his beloved companion of 39 years Donna Weitry; two daughters; Lisa Uhlig and Laura Uhlig-Smith and her husband Marc; five sisters; Joyce Uhlig, Janice Uhlig, Doris Uhlig-Howery, Carol Uhlig-Wagner; and Diane Uhlig-Assell; one granddaughter; Tabitha Smith.
Mr. Uhlig loved boating and fishing and was truly a big hearted soul. He will be remembered by his family and many friends for his selflessness. Mr. Uhlig was an amazing husband, father, and grandfather and will be dearly missed.
A private cremation will be offered followed by a future Memorial Gathering when the limitations on travel and gatherings lightens. Arrangements are under the direction of the Krowicki Gorny Memorial Home 211 Westfield Avenue Clark, NJ 07066.
