Elizabeth – Thomas A. Flynn, Jr., a longtime resident of Elizabeth, passed away on August 3 rd , 2017 at the
NJ Veteran’s Memorial Home in Edison. Born in Elizabeth to Thomas, Sr. and Margaret Flynn, he was
one of 13 children.
Tom was a veteran of the Korean War, having served with the US Army before being honorably
discharged. He worked for many years in general construction and as a maintenance mechanic for St.
Elizabeth’s Hospital, now Trinitas, and for Center for Hope Hospice. Tom was a member of the American
Legion and the VFW. He was active in a number of Irish social and civic organizations, was a frequent
participant in the Union County St. Patrick’s Day Parade and served in St. Patrick’s Guard of Honor.
Loved by his extended family, he was known as “The Uncle” to his many nieces and nephews. He was
predeceased by his wife, Myrtha Martinez Flynn, who died in 1977, and by his longtime companion,
Patricia Marquez. He is survived by his three sons, Thomas A., III (Margaret), Martin (Marta), and David
(Dawn); his grandchildren, Kayleigh, Thomas C., David, Timothy, Meghan, Ryan, and Stephen. He is also
survived by two sisters, Katherine Huffenus and Anne Murphy.
Visitation will be held at Krowicki Gorny Memorial Home, 211 Westfield Ave., Clark on August 7 th , from
2-4 & 7-9 pm. A funeral service will begin at 10 am Tuesday at the funeral home followed by interment
with military honors at Mr. Olivet Cemetery in Newark. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the
Center for Hope Hospice 1900 Raritan Road Scotch Plains, NJ 07076.
