Louis Mastropasqua Obituary

Louis Mastropasqua, 88, of Clark passed away at home on November 20, 2019.

Lou is survived by his bride and best friend of 63 years, Elaine. Lou and Elaine met at the skating rink in Bayonne and after his time in the crash crew in the Marines during the Korean Conflict, they married on May 6,1956 at Sacred Heart Church in Jersey City. He lived in Jersey City and Roselle before moving to Clark in 1978.

Also surviving are his four children who were the light of his life. JoAnne Mastropasqua and Joe Rizzo (Brick); Paula and Bill Carolan (Toms River); Laura and George Petito (Toms River) and Louis Mastropasqua (Clark).

And if his children were the light of his life, his nine grandchildren were the sparkle. Missing their PopPop forever are Stacy and her husband Jay Smith (Tinton Falls), Billy Carolan (Toms River), Amy Carolan (Toms River), Zachary Jones (Boston, MA), John Carolan (Toms River), Logan Jones (New York City), Gianna Petito (Toms River) and Isabella Petito (Toms River) and Hailey Mastropasqua (Clark). And his newest sparkle, great grandson Augustus Smith. Lou was the most supportive PopPop. You could always find him in the bleachers at countless baseball, football and soccer games; at dance recitals, parades, comedy shows, graduations; traveling around the United States seeing musicals; and returning to Parris Island on last time for graduation! He had a special song he would sing with each of them. He was so proud of all their accomplishments.

He leaves behind his heartbroken brothers Sonny Mastro and wife Adrienne of Palm Dessert, California and Paul Mastropasqua and his wife Charlotte of Woodstock, Georgia.

He is also survived by his beautiful Aunt Laura.
Lou’s extended family was so important to him and he would do anything for any of them. His nieces and nephews and grandnieces and grandnephews loved Uncle Louie with their all… he was that fun uncle. He will forever be in the hearts of Annie and Bill Fitzgerald, Judy Gilberti, Felicia and Michael Tully, Paul and Greta Mastro, Donna and Ty Torres, Karen and Donn Kretchmer, Felicia and Steve Drasheff, Chuck and MaryEllen Gilberti, Genevieve and Stephen Cochran, Rita and Darren Hendley, Paul Mastropasqua, Dot C and Terry Stevens, Christine and Steven Lentz and all of their children. His nephews Bernie Griletti and Carmine Rubino pre-deceased him.

He never missed a La Mastra annual family picnic 53 years until this last one. His many cousins, second cousins and all of their children will miss his raspy-voiced jokes and stories.

Part of the Lunch Box crew, Lou and Howie and the rest were out to solve the problems of the world and do a couple of scratch offs on the side.
Born and raised in Hoboken NJ to Paul and Felicia Mastropasqua, Lou was proud of his Hoboken roots. This is where his strong love of family was fostered. He has a special bond with his sisters Mary Griletti, Rose Gilberti and Anne Rubino, who pre-deceased him. He had endless stories about growing up in Hoboken, with names like Georgie the Devil, Charlie Bibidoo and Zitzi B (there is no Zitzi B!!).

Lou was an excellent athlete. He played baseball, softball and bowled. Lou worked for Roadway Express for 35 years. He had over 2 million miles of safe driving and won several truck rodeos in his career. He was a proud Teamster and Union Shop Steward for Local 560. He was also a member of the Veteran's of Foreign War, Clark.

Today, do a scratch off in his honor! Hope you win!
