Clark – John George Sungela passed away Friday, October 7, 2016. Born in Kearny he resided in Clark for 51 years.
The funeral will be held Tuesday 9:15 AM at Krowicki Gorny Memorial Home 211 Westfield Ave, Clark, followed by a Funeral Mass at St. John the Apostle RC Church on Valley Road in Clark at 10 AM. Visitation will be at the Funeral Home on Monday from 4-7 PM. Interment will be at St. Gertrude's Cemetery in Colonia. In lieu of flowers donations in his memory to the Center for Hope in Scotch Plains 1900 Raritan Rd , Scotch Plains, NJ 07076 would be appreciated.
John worked as an auto mechanic at Smith Motors in Elizabeth for 41 years. He served in the United States Marine Corps during the Korean conflict and was a member of the American Legion Post # 328. In addition to being a devoted husband and father, John's hobbies included camping, coin collecting, and following automobile racing. John's first and last cars were classic jaguars.
Mr. Sungela was pre-deceased by his parents George and Josephine (nee Veckis) Maron, and his sister Irene Guzewicz. He is survived by his wife of 59 yrs., Gertrude; his sons Glenn of Congers, NY and Kenneth and his wife Melissa of Rivervale, NJ; and his grandchildren Emma, Luke and Colton.
