Sophie Szmerda

– Sophie Szmerda, 90, passed away peacefully at her home on Saturday (June 25, 2016). Born and raised in Bayonne, she lived there before moving to Clark over 50 years ago.

Sophie was employed as the head of the Mortgage Service Department of the First Savings & Loan of Bayonne for 38 years before retiring.

She was a longtime member of St. Agnes R.C. Church and belonged to the Sun & Fun Club of St. John’s; the Senior Citizens of Clark; and the AARP of Clark.

She was predeceased by her parents, Joseph and Jenny Szmerda; and her brother Raymond. She is survived by aunt, Lee Karczewski; her cousins, Helen Eisenhauer and Stephen Czeh; and other cousins and friends.

The funeral will be from Krowicky Gorny Memorial Home, 211 Westfield Ave., Clark, on Wednesday  at 10 AM followed by a funeral Mass at St. Agnes R.C. Church in Clark at 11 AM.  Interment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery in North Arlington. Visitation will be Tuesday  from 4 PM to 7 PM.
