Olga Rusin, 89, of Scotch Plains, NJ, passed away on Monday, March 28, 2016 at the Center for Hope Hospice in Scotch Plains, NJ after a short illness.
Olga was born in 1926 in Rahway, NJ to John Rusin and his wife Helen (née Ohlsen). Following high school, she entered the convent of the Sisters of the Good Shepherd in Morristown, NJ where she was a cloistered nun for more than 30 years. She later worked for the Archdiocese of Newark and retired from Union Catholic High School, where she prepared meals for both the school and the rectory.
She was sustained throughout life by her strong and unwavering faith. She was a skillful seamstress and an extraordinary baker. One of her greatest pleasures was making cookies that were enjoyed equally by her family, friends and neighbors. She was the sunshine in the lives of so many and will be missed by all.
She is survived by her brother, George Rusin and his wife Catherine of Roselle Park, NJ, her sister, Pauline Strychowski of Charles Town, WV, and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by 2 brothers and 4 sisters.
The funeral will be from Krowicki Gorny Memorial Home, 211 Westfield Ave., Clark, on Saturday, April 2nd at 9 AM followed by a 10 AM funeral Mass at Immaculate Heart of Mary R.C. Church, 1571 Martine Ave., Scotch Plains. Interment will follow at Graceland Memorial Park in Kenilworth. Visitation will be Friday from 4 PM to 8 PM at the funeral home.
