Devoted to his family and friends and dedicated to his patients, Dr. Micky Yu is fondly remembered for his joyful exuberance, kindness, and generosity of spirit. He was a friend to everyone and always extended a helping hand to anyone in need. Micky died peacefully on August 26, 2017 with Grace, his loving wife of 53 years, by his side.
Born into a prominent Christian Chinese family in Manila, Micky was the son of Yu Tiam, and Uy Yam Tee. He had a wonderful childhood as the ninth of ten children in a tightly-knit family and made lifelong friends in every part of his life. After graduating from the University of Santo Thomas Medical School, Micky came to the United States in 1958 for medical training. He specialized in pediatrics, with expertise in allergy and hematology, and trained in programs in Brooklyn, Louisville, Honolulu, and Philadelphia. Micky also spent two years training at the Children’s Hospital of Montefiore, Albert Einstein College of Medicine, where he later taught for more than 14 years. In 1971, Micky opened his pediatrics practice in Edison, New Jersey where he took care of generations of patients for 42 years.
Micky was adored by his wife Grace and his children Audrey, Michelle, Michael, and Daniel, son-in-law Allen, daughter-in-law Abigail, and grandchildren Justin, Eric, and Jacob. They will miss the warmth of his sunshine, but he will be forever in their hearts.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held Saturday, September 2, 10:15 AM at the Reformed Church of Highland Park, 19 S 2nd Avenue, Highland, NJ 08904
