Genevieve Olterzewski , 96, passed away on Friday (September 18, 2015) with her family by her side. Born in Hackensack, she grew up in Jersey City. She has been a resident of Clark since 1951.
A veteran of World War II, Mrs. Olterzewski enlisted in the US Army in 1943 during which she served as a medical laboratory technician until she was honorably discharged in 1946. After raising five children with her husband, Joe, she worked at various companies in the Clark area, most recently at JB Williams.
She was very involved in the Clark Community, as a member of the Clark Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary; Clark Seniors; the American Legion; the VFW and AARP. Genevieve’s love of family, gardening and flowers, enthusiasm for travel, pride in her Polish heritage, and her positive, cheerful perspective on life will continue to be an inspiration to everyone who was blessed to know her.
She was predeceased by her husband, Joseph; her daughter, Lorraine Olenick; and her son, Donald Olterzewski. Surviving are her daughters, Linda Olterzewski, Ellen Cicero (and her husband, Ron), Amy Quinn (and her husband, Robert); grandchildren, Amber, Jean, Megan, Adam, John, William and Austin and great-grandchildren, Savannah, Sierra, Dylan and Shiloh .
Visitation will be at Krowicki Gorny Memorial Home, 211 Westfield Ave., Clark, on Wednesday, September 23rd from 2-4 and 7-9. The funeral will be from the funeral home on Thursday at 9 AM followed by a 10 AM Mass at St. John the Apostle R.C. Church. Interment with military honors will be held at Hazelwood Cemetery in Rahway. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Clark Volunteer Emergency Fund.
