Elaine Theresa Bentsen, 77

Colonia – Elaine Theresa Bentsen, 77, passed away on Friday, June 3, 2016 at RWJ University Hospital at Rahway. Born in Newark, she grew up in Kenilworth before moving to Colonia almost 50 years ago.

Elaine received her Master’s degree from Kean University and was a career long educator. She was the Principal of Blessed Sacrament School in Elizabeth for many years before retiring. Elaine also worked as a teacher at St. John the Apostle School in Clark, she was on the Piscataway Board of Education, taught at Jefferson School in Plainfield and at St. John Vianney School in Colonia. She was also a longtime parishioner of St. John Vianney R.C. Church in Colonia.

She was predeceased by her daughter, Catherine Wlodarski. She is survived by her beloved husband, Bernard “Skip” Bentsen; her children, Stephen Bentsen and his wife, Jennifer; Paul Bentsen and his wife, Lee Anne; David Bentsen and his wife, Cindy; and her son-in-law, Tony Wlodarski.  She is also survived by her grandchildren, Brandon Kelly, Jessica McAllister, Elizabeth Murphy, Michelle Bentsen and Christopher Bentsen; and her two great-grandchildren, Tucker and Catherine McAllister.

The funeral will be from Krowicki Gorny Memorial Home, 211 Westfield Ave., Clark on Tuesday at 8:30AM followed by a 9:30AM funeral Mass at St. John Vianney R.C. Church in Colonia. Visitation will be on Monday from 4-8PM. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the ASPCA (www.aspca.org/donate).
